No purchase necessary. Ice Breaker is free to play with a free WARpath Buffalo account. A purchase does not improve your chances of winning.

How to play

  • Before each Buffalo Sabres regular-season and playoff game, pick the Sabres skater you think will score the team’s first goal, or pick “No Sabres goal”.
  • One pick per person per game. You can change it as often as you like until puck drop, when picks lock.
  • Your account must exist before puck drop. Duplicate or automated accounts may be disqualified.

How winners are decided

  • The first goal is the first Sabres goal in regulation or overtime, from the NHL’s official scoring once the game is final. A goal reassigned on review counts for the player credited.
  • Shootout goals don’t count. If the Sabres score no goal before a shootout, “No Sabres goal” wins.
  • If the player you picked doesn’t dress, your pick is void: no win, and no loss on the leaderboard.
  • If a game is postponed or cancelled, its picks are void.

Prizes

  • Everyone with a correct pick wins one free month of WARpath. Subscribers receive a credit of one month’s price on their next bill; everyone else receives 30 days of full access, applied automatically.
  • Up to three prizes per person per season. Three correct picks in a season earns the Hat Trick badge on the leaderboard; correct picks after that still count on the leaderboard.
  • Prizes have no cash value and can’t be transferred.

Everything else

  • Open to anyone with a WARpath Buffalo account, where permitted by law.
  • The leaderboard shows your first name and last initial from your profile, or an anonymous name if you haven’t set one.
  • Ice Breaker is run by WARpath Buffalo and is not sponsored, endorsed or administered by the Buffalo Sabres, the NHL or X.
  • WARpath Buffalo may change or end Ice Breaker at any time; prizes already won will be honored.
